The Renal Association (RA) has been an innovator and leader in ensuring safety of renal patients, including the publication of national renal clinical standards. The Patient Safety Project was instituted in 2007, in collaboration with the National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA). Patient Safety is a multi-professional responsibility, and joint working with the British Renal Society (BRS) ensures that incidents and risks are identified and solutions are shared. RA-BRS Patient Safety works with the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) in reviewing incidents and risks related to equipment. Patient Safety is overseen by NHS England (NHSE) and RA-BRS Patient Safety liaises with the NHSEand Royal College of Physicians Patient Safety committees.
