The Association is the professional body representing all aspects of Renal Technology and supports all Renal Technologists who work either within the NHS or the Private sector.
We have recently introduced an education and training programmes for staff ‘new to practice’.
The Association was formed in 1975 following a request from, and after a couple of seminars that were organised by, the Department of Health. The original intention was to promote and share experiences and ideas that were common to renal technicians who were working in the sphere of renal medicine.
ART have never lost site of the original ethos, that of being a conduit for the exchange of information and ideas, which are available to all.
ART have also developed a voluntary Continuous Professional Development, CPD, scheme, which is workable and ensures that renal technologists have the opportunity of maintaining their professional development with a minimum of cost.
There are currently no more than 250 renal technologists working for the Health Service and less than 50 working within the private sector. However ART has almost 200 renal technologists as members of the Association, which although a respectable number we would like to be able to represent all renal technologists.
With the forthcoming requirement for renal technologists to be registered, membership of the professional body might also become mandatory, as with nurses and many other medical professionals.
ART are the professional body representing renal technologists and it is important that all renal technologists are members.
